The LVA Method!

Stage 1

Introduction

In this stage players are introduced to LVA's techniques of the fundamentals (pass, set, hit, serve, did, block). First 60 minutes of practice will focus on skills development. The rest 30 minutes players are introduced to game like drills.

Stage 2

Development

In this stage we will have a clear idea of what position fits for each player. This will allow us focus on developing players skills specific in those positions we found in stage 1. First 60 minutes of practice will focus on skills development. The rest 30 minutes players are introduced to the primary offense and defense systems

Stage 3

Pre-Competitive

In this stage we continue developing players' skills and will start working on the game systems. First 45 minutes of practice players continue working on their skills development and the rest 45 minutes they will work on primary offense and defense game systems.

Stage 4

Competitive

This stage is similar to stage 3, just that we will spend more time on the game systems than the previous stages. Players will continue working on skills development the first 30 minutes and then will focus on the primary offense and defense systems systems for the rest 60 minutes.

“We have done the hitting and libero academy and clinics with Carlos since our daughter was 8 years old and placed on a National Team. All of the Coaches at LVA are professional, skilled and experienced. One of the hardest things for your player to overcome is improper technique so I highly suggest this as a starting point for your player as well if he/ she is a beginner, looking for placement, transitioning to Club as well as clinics learning advanced skills. ”

“I cannot recommend Luna Volleyball Academy and Coach Carlos Luna enough. Coach Luna has a wealth of experience and knowledge in volleyball and has a unique ability to inspire his players to strive for greatness. His passion for the game is infectious, and he always creates a positive and supportive environment for his players. My daughter has learned so much from him, both on and off the court, and has grown tremendously as a player and a person under his guidance”

Led By LVA's International Coaches

Coach Carlos

Coach Carlos has 30 years of experience playing and coaching. Carlos is part of the “golden generation” of Venezuela that won more than 20 international medals, including the Pan-American Games in 2003 and several medals in World Championships. He also played in the Olympics in Beijing in 2008. Carlos played 15 years as a pro in Italy, Argentina, Greece, Spain, Japan, Qatar, UAE, Finland and Venezuela.

He’s been coaching the club for almost a decade now. Coach Carlos founded Luna Volleyball Academy in 2018 to provide premium private training in DFW. Due to the constant asking from players and coaches, Carlos decided this year to take a leap of faith to start his club.

Carlo’s main motivation for starting his own club is to provide another perspective on high-level volleyball in DFW. He believes that high-level players should look beyond college; his mission is for the players to reach their full potential by pursuing a pro career or getting into the Team USA pipeline.

Besides being the club director and head coach of two teams, Coach Carlos is also in charge of the club’s player development program. Thus, all players in LVA will have the opportunity to be coached by him in September-October during the pre-season and all skills clinics in the club.

FQA

We want to ignite new players’ passion for volleyball with expert training and guidance. We want to equip beginner/intermediate level players with the necessary skills to excel on the court by mastering techniques and fundamentals for a competitive edge. Our ultimate goal is for parents to feel they have discovered a proven developmental program that works for their child, that they have found the perfect place to nurture their child’s volleyball talent, and that they are learning the essential basics of the game for success in volleyball.

This program is for girls and boys 3rd – 12th grade.

Any player who wants to upgrade their skills and prepare for competitive volleyball, including players with club and rec experience, players who are preparing for school tryouts, or elementary players who have never played.

This is not a rec league or another general beginner volleyball skills program. This program is for any player who wants to learn develop their skills to compete in the next level. While having fun and making friends is crucial in youth sports (and we also promote that), participants are expected to come with a learning mentality. This mentality includes being coachable, having a good attitude, listening to instructions, and executing the skills the way coaches instruct them.

Program lasts 8 weeks. It start on May 10th and ends on June 29th.

Game days are every other Saturday. The tournament is on the last Saturday of the season.

Game Day schedule and end of the season tournament are as follows:

  • Game Day #1: May 25
  • Game Day #2: June 8
  • Game Day #3: June 22
  • End of the season tournament: Saturday, June 29

Each game will last 45 minutes. Teams will play sets to 21. Additionally, teams have 10 minutes to warm up. Teams will play as many sets to 21 as time allows.

7th – 9th Grade Rules and Score System

Playing time is warranty but not equal.

Teams will play with the same rules as Club volleyball. These ages will play a 6-2 or 5-1 system with a libero. If there are more than seven players, coaches will find a rotation to allow all players to participate in all games (this doesn’t mean playing time is equal, as some players will stay on the court more than others based on their skills and position they are playing).

Teams play for 45 minutes as many sets to 21 points as time allows. When time is over, the team that wins more sets wins the match. If teams are tight on sets, when time is over,  the winner is the team leading the score in the last set.

3rd – 6th Grade Rules and Score System

Playing time is equal. All players will play six rotations before they sub out. Players sub out after they serve. Players enter in the same order as the sub out in zone 1. The player in position 3 is the setter.

For 3rd to 6th grades, there are several modifications to promote game continuity. These modifications include:

  • Servers have two opportunities to serve (if they miss the first serve, they will get a second chance).
  • Continuity Free Ball: When a team misses a serve, the coach will send a free ball to the other side to keep the game’s rhythm. The free ball is a wash rally (the team that wins the rally doesn’t score a point).
  • The serving line is 25 feet off the net.
  • The team scores one point if players serve off the court and will score another point if they win the rally.
  • The team will score a point if players make three touches (even if they lose the rally).

There is no formal ranking. Winning a championship is not a priority in this program. The main focus of the Game Day is to see how players are advancing their skills and understanding of the game.

Coaches will collect results to evaluate the team and players’ performance. Results will be discussed among players and coaches as an indicator to help us reflect on and evaluate players’ progress and target the skills and aspects of the game they need to improve.

Each team will play two games on each Game Day.

LVA coaches will referee the games. We are keeping score and results to be discussed with the teams, but this is not an official competition. The Game Day aims to evaluate players’ skills and IQ volleyball development, not winning or losing.

More detail will be provided once we know how many teams are formed. We expect for teams to play at least four sets to 25 points in the tournament but the format will depend on number of teams formed.

Yes! Players are getting medals as well as individual rewards. We are awarding the MVP, most improved player and  best teammate of the season.
